Shared time.

I never had a chance to share with you Alice's birthday adventure. We went and visited the White Sands National Park in Alamogordo, New Mexico. As minimalists, we focus on doing something as a family for a birthday instead of buying things we don't have room for. This way Alice is getting a wonderful memory that will last a lifetime reminding her of her family and how much we love her.

So we decided to go at sunset. This was January so it was chilly outside and we did not calculate the temperature drop from the sand. As we waited for the sun to drop we sledded down the hills and made sand angels. Burning out all our unspent energy. We investigated this weird sand. It didn't stick to you, this kind just slides off. Looking in a handy pamphlet we received at the gate, we learned that it was actually gypsum from when this area was an ocean floor. Neat stuff here guys!

Once the sun was going down we sat and cuddled up and watched as the colors change while they reflected changing colors onto the dunes. It was very enjoyable and low-key, just how we like it. We then finished off Alice's special day with locally made artisan pizza and a super slick ninja turtle birthday cake. Alice sure is special to us. She sure knows she's the baby and has a lot of pull around here. We wouldn't have her any other way. Here's to the coolest 5-year old I know.

PS Friendly reminder for veterans!!! When we pulled in to pay we were notified that ALL veterans get in free to ALL national Parks. So we got to share this experience completely free! Make sure to have your ID or DD214.
