Payette River time

Trying to escape the heat we headed north of Stanley, Id, and ended up in Lowman. The drive up was so pretty and we have never seen water like this. The colors were breathtaking so were the temperatures. Exploring the area, trying to find dry camping spots we came across some very interesting looking pools of water. Some were 30 ft deep, we could see the huge trout holding at the bottom. Relentless to move we could not entice them enough to come up and eat our flies. We now know next year we will be prepared with sinking lines and leaders. Since the trout were untouchable we decided to take a dip in some of the emerald pools. It was nice to relax and the girls LOVED being able to swim.

Some pools looked deep enough to jump in off a cliff. It was such a fun time and most of the days we had the place to ourselves. In the evenings while the girls played in the river Tyler and I would fish by the trailer, reeling in a few rainbows here and there. Charlie took a few swims down the current but survived, after those trips he would get to the trailer and collapse for a nap of a few hours. Temperatures reached over the 90s in our trailer. This summer we quickly found out a well-insulated trailer is made to keep heat in and not out. The lack of breeze also made it difficult to keep the trailer cool. Thankfully we had the water to keep us content during the peak temperatures of the day. I believe we are finished with this heatwave for the summer and hope to soon see cooler temperatures.

Before we played I asked the girls to clean up the campsites. Tent campers seem to leave a considerable amount of trash behind. We always try to leave our area better than we found it, which is quite easy considering the amount of trash we find. It takes only a few short minutes, the job is done and then we can continue playing. I know I've said it before but I don't see how people can leave the mess of the city to "escape it all", go to the forests and litter everywhere and not think anything of it. The sad part is our future generations arent learning any different and will continue the cycle of littering. The Pack it in Pack it out motto isn't sticking with these people.

Man, that emerald water looks awesome. The water is probably a Ph of 7, meaning, pure water. I would love to try my hand at those fish. Remind me when you come to visit, I have an Orvis spool (gold Hydros) spooled with a sinking line that you can have. It has never been used.

The litter problem just amazes and maddens me. Remember the trip on the Cimarron River, filled our nets with trash, quickly and could have filled 10 more nets full. Remember the numerous 55-gallon bags of trash we picked up in Kisatchie? Most offenders seem to be beer drinkers, with Bud Lite and Michelob Ultra leading the way. Louisiana law regarding alcoholic containers in vehicles encourages…
