The Rufous

A Rufous' color is gold and red. They are very territorial, which means they are aggressive towards other birds. The Rufous will chase the other hummingbirds away, protecting their food source. Have you seen one in real life? You can find alot of Rufous's in Colorado. They migrate from Canada/Alaska all the way to Mexico. Their babies are very small, one inch in length, .62 grams. That is very small for an animal.

They are fast, they reach speeds up to 50 MPH. Hummingbirds are as colorful as flowers. The boys go hummmmmmmmmmmmm, and the girls go................nothing. What they eat is bugs and nectar from flowers and feeders. My mom and I make nectar with 4cups of water and 1 cup of sugar. See if you can find a hummingbird outside your window. My favorite species of hummingbird is the Marvelous Spatuletail hummingbird that lives in Peru. One day I would like to see one in the wild. What is your favorite species of hummingbirds?
