This week we celebrated Alice turning 6! Something that seems absurd to me. I cannot believe our youngest is now 6. That means she has lived half of her life in the trailer and on the road. Wow what a way to begin your life! Tyler was actually able to join us on this birthday too. They began their casing break 6am on her birthday and he drove 3 hours after a night shift and was able to join us for Alice's requested breakfast meal of pepperoni pizza...like a true ninja turtle. She also requested that we skip school for the day, not just her but for her sisters as well, which we did. Wednesday is our science and history day so not much was lost. They probably learned more outside playing that day than the knowledge they would retain from a book anyway.
After breakfast we then drove to the nearest "big town" of Seguin to a small local bakery and picked up her custom gourmet cupcakes that had the CUTEST little foxes. We probably could have gotten some beautiful filet mignon for the price of those cupcakes, but we will just ignore that fact. Once we got home, the girls went and played at the little playground in the park. Tyler finally went to sleep after being awake for close to 24 hours, something we were able to do with ease "back in the day". I remember during our time in the Marines we could drink all night fall asleep around 4 and be able to wake up at 6, PT for an hour or more then continue on with our 10-hour workday, repeat this for four years and you've got yourself a Marine.
Any who, on the girl's birthdays we always let them pick the menu for the day. This is Alice's second year choosing spaghetti and meatballs for her birthday dinner. She never requests this meal throughout the rest of the year. I also have never cooked it other than these two times. We don't know where she got this idea from for spaghetti and meatball for her birthday dinner, but we aren't mad about it. We always enjoy our annual feast in honor of her birth.
Some of her presents have yet to arrive, the downfall of boycotting Amazon the best we can. We purchased most of her gifts from Etsy, which is something I love so much, supporting small American businesses. Only downfall is the shop owners can work as fast or as slow as they'd like. So, we are still awaiting on one little crocheted Ninja Turtle. Tyler also took the big sisters to Tractor supply to let them pick out some Schleich animals for her as well. Literally the only toys they have are Schleich animals and Legos and they are all perfectly content with these toys. Alice is so funny to watch open presents because she gets so speechless and just loves everything she gets usually.
It is hard to describe our little Alice. Her favorite animal is a fox and I believe that is the best way to describe her personality and character traits. Very sly, quick, sneaky and witty. I'm sure these are all great qualities to carry on into adulthood, right? Her namesake is my grandmother's sister. Peep (my grandmother) would say Alice would always have a book in her face, which is something I would love to be known for. But why not name your daughter after an authentic southern belle from Charlston, South Carolina?
